Ways to participate

Participation should have a clear purpose and an appropriate route. An organisation seeking membership, an expert offering technical work and a contributor commenting on a draft have different roles and responsibilities.

Membership and other routes

Membership provides the rights and services set out in the applicable membership rules. Some technical tasks and consultations may have separate participation conditions. Neither membership nor a fee determines an assessment result.

Membership

Expert contributions

Expert contributions are considered against a defined task and relevant competence. Applicants identify their experience, proposed contribution and interests. The appointment process is separate from an expression of interest.

Contribute expertise

Technical work proposals

A work proposal identifies a practical need, intended users and a useful output. Proposals should explain the gap in existing information and the evidence or resources available to address it.

Propose work

Institutional cooperation

A cooperation proposal should describe the shared technical question and the contribution of each party. Responsibilities, information use and public statements follow the resulting agreement, not the initial discussion.

Conditions of participation

The applicable route sets out eligibility, conduct, interests and information obligations. Representation of an employer or another institution must be clear. Use of the Institute's name or marks is subject to specific permission.

Choose the appropriate route

Read the conditions for membership or expert work before applying. For a comment on a draft, use its consultation notice. For a proposal between organisations, use the partnership route.
