Technical tasks
Expert work is attached to a defined task, such as reviewing guidance, contributing research or examining a method. The scope identifies the contribution needed and the responsibility of the person undertaking it.
Relevant expertise
Relevant expertise may arise from professional practice, research, manufacturing, purchasing, measurement or the use of standards. The application should show its relevance to the task rather than list credentials without context.
Consideration of applications
Applications are considered against the technical need, evidence of experience and ability to observe the working arrangements. Additional information may be required. Expressions of interest do not confer an expert title or appointment.
Appointment and working arrangements
An appointment identifies the task, reporting route and conditions of participation. It also addresses access to documents, expected contribution and any authority to represent an organisation. Representation of the Institute requires separate, express authority.
Interests and confidentiality
Applicants and participants disclose interests relevant to the subject. Confidentiality and intellectual property conditions apply to the material involved. A potential conflict may require a restriction, recusal or a decision not to make the appointment.
Attribution of contributions
Authorship, acknowledgement and institutional attribution follow the nature of the work and its approval arrangements. Participation in discussion does not automatically make a person an author or permit use of an external organisation's name as an endorsement.
Offer a contribution
Identify the subject or group, describe the work you could undertake and provide relevant examples of experience. State any affiliations or interests that need consideration.
