Rights in content

The rights in a document, image or other material belong to the identified rights holder. Institutional branding does not override third-party rights in a contribution or cited source.

Original IESQ website text and artwork are reserved to the Institute unless a specific item states another licence or owner. Third-party standards and linked publications retain their own rights. Permission to use the website does not grant permission to reproduce a third-party standard.

Institute publications

A publication's stated licence or permission governs its use. Downloading a file permits the access described in its record; other uses may require permission. Check the exact edition and any credit or restriction associated with the material.

Third-party standards and material

External standards and other publications retain their publishers' rights. Reference to a document does not authorise its reproduction. Obtain access and permissions through the appropriate rights holder rather than assuming that an IESQ reference provides them.

Quotations and reproduction

A proposed quotation or reproduction should preserve the meaning, attribution and limitations of the source. Identify the exact passage, edition, medium and intended audience when requesting permission. An extract must not imply endorsement of an unrelated product or service.

Translations and marks

Translation can change technical meaning and requires appropriate rights and review. Names, logos and other marks have separate use conditions. Permission for text does not automatically include a mark, image or an organisation's endorsement.

Request permission

State the material, edition, portion, purpose, distribution method and any commercial use. Identify whether adaptation or translation is proposed. Permission, where granted, applies only to its stated use and conditions.

Report a rights concern

Identify the material, location and rights concerned, with a clear basis for the request. Provide contact details for a response and any authority to act for the rights holder.
