Find an answer by task

Use the sections below to distinguish an activity, choose a participation route or understand a document. Questions about a particular result should include its full reference and issuing body.

The Institute and its work

What is the Institute's remit?

Standards application, quality practice and technical evidence form the remit described in the mandate and scope. The particular activity determines the method, responsible body and result.

Does the name imply European Union authority?

No. An institutional name does not establish a government mandate, recognition arrangement or statutory authorisation. Any such role requires a specific, verifiable basis.

Does a reference to ISO, EN or another standard imply a partnership?

No. A reference identifies source material. Authorship, membership and institutional cooperation are separate relationships and must be described accurately.

Assessment and results

Is a report the same as a certificate?

No. A report records the work, evidence and findings within its scope. A certificate has the meaning assigned by its issuing body and applicable programme. Read the document type and terms.

Does management-system certification certify a product?

No. A management-system result concerns the stated organisation, activities and sites. It should not be represented as product certification.

Is accreditation the same as certification?

No. Accreditation addresses a body's competence for specified activities. Certification concerns conformity of its stated object under a defined scheme. The accredited entity and its scope must be identifiable.

Can a general voluntary certificate replace a statutory product procedure?

No. The applicable product framework determines what procedure and roles are required. Read the assessment information and check the relevant official source.

Can a result be extended to another model or site?

Only through an appropriate basis and applicable procedure. Similarity of names, ownership or appearance does not itself extend the scope.

Publications and permissions

How do I identify the right edition?

Use the publication reference, edition and status shown in its record. Check linked corrections and replacement editions.

May I redistribute a downloaded guide?

The document's licence and permissions determine this. Permission to download is not necessarily permission to reproduce, translate or redistribute.

Does IESQ guidance replace an external standard?

No. Guidance explains a defined subject. The external document retains its own text, status and rights. Follow copyright and permissions for reuse questions.

Membership and technical participation

Does membership guarantee a favourable assessment?

No. Membership and technical decisions are separate. Category fees do not purchase results, appointments or approval.

Is an application confirmation evidence of membership?

No. It confirms receipt. Any admission is communicated through the applicable approval procedure.

Can I offer expertise without claiming to represent my country or employer?

Yes, where the task's participation rules allow. State the capacity in which you apply. Representation requires authority; a professional affiliation alone does not provide it.

How can I suggest technical work?

Use the work proposal route and identify the practical problem, intended users and proposed output.

Learning and events

What does a course record demonstrate?

Its type matters. Attendance records participation; completion records satisfaction of course conditions; an assessed result records the specified assessment. None should be described as an unrelated professional certification.

Does training guarantee an assessment result?

No. Learning and the decision under an assessment programme are separate.

Does submitting a registration reserve a place?

Only if the actual registration terms and confirmation say so. An application, a waiting-list entry and a confirmed place are different states.

How do I read an activity time?

Use the time zone stated for that session. For online activities, compare it with your local time before joining.

Verification and help

What does a successful record match establish?

It identifies the recorded issue and status within the displayed scope. Read the record type, issuing body, object, criteria and dates; a match does not establish a wider approval.

Does no matching record mean the document is false?

Not necessarily. Check the identifier and issuer, then use the record concern route. A service error must be distinguished from an actual no-match response.

Where should I raise a problem?

Use complaints for service or conduct concerns, appeals for eligible decision challenges and misuse reporting for questionable claims or marks.

How do I ask another question?

Use contact options and give the document, programme or task reference relevant to the question.
