Product and intended use
A construction product's intended use and relevant characteristics determine the technical question. Product identity, installation conditions and the relationship to the completed works should be clear before evidence is selected or a conclusion requested.
Performance information
Specifications, declared information, drawings and test evidence should describe the same product and application. Particular attention may be needed where variants, substrates, fixings or installation details affect the performance being discussed.
Assessment basis
The relevant framework depends on the product and applicable route. Technical standards, assessment documents and legal procedures have different roles. Their status and applicability must be checked against the current official information.
Technical work
Work may concern the consistency of technical documentation, interpretation of requirements or a defined quality method. The scope states the intended output and the role of any external testing or assessment body.
Formal assessment routes
An IESQ technical review must not be represented as a European Technical Assessment or a substitute for the relevant statutory procedure. The European Commission explains the EOTA route and the role of technical assessment bodies.
Related resources
Read relevant guidance for its stated application, edition and limitations. Material and traceability questions may require a separate examination of how product identity is maintained through supply and production.
Describe the application
Identify the product, intended use, performance question, market context and existing documents. State whether the need is technical guidance, an evidence review or a result under a specified formal route.
