Partnerships

For a specific document, person or reference, contact the Institute.

Purpose of cooperation

Cooperation can bring complementary expertise to a defined technical question. The basis of a partnership is the work agreed between the parties: its scope, responsibilities, outputs and arrangements for use of information.

Types of relationship

A research collaborator, a delivery provider, a member and a purchaser have different relationships with the Institute. These terms are used according to the actual agreement. A reference to an external publication is not a partnership.

Partner information

Partner records identify the organisation and the category of relationship. A public entry is limited to the scope and period authorised for disclosure. The presence of an organisation's name or mark does not extend the Institute's technical or legal authority.

Responsibilities

The arrangements identify which party undertakes each task, reviews technical work and issues an output. Where another body performs testing or certification, its role and any relevant scope must be stated directly.

Projects and outputs

A partnership record links to work that the parties have agreed may be made public. Results, funding and authorship are attributed accurately. Confidential project information is not made public merely because the relationship is listed.

Cooperation principles

Proposed cooperation is considered against the Institute's remit, available competence, impartiality and ownership of outputs. Public statements and use of names or marks require agreement. A discussion or application does not itself establish a relationship.

Discuss a proposal

Describe the technical question, the contribution each party would make and the intended result. Include any funding, commercial interests, confidentiality requirements or time constraints relevant to the proposal.
