Institutional background

The Institute of European Standards and Quality concerns standards application, quality practice and technical evidence. Its work is described through the relevant scope, methods and outputs. Institutional background should be read with the mandate and legal information.

Name and remit

Use the full name on first reference, followed by IESQ where appropriate. A reference to European standards or practice should not be rewritten as European Union authority, a national mandate or statutory approval.

Mandate and scope

Background material

An institutional factsheet or approved description identifies its date and scope. Numerical claims, legal status and appointments require the corresponding source. An earlier factsheet should not be treated as current where the facts have changed.

Names and visual materials

Logos, photographs and other assets may be used only under the relevant permission. A partner's or external organisation's mark requires that party's authority. Combining marks can create an unintended implication of endorsement and should be considered before publication.

Source documents

Use the linked publication, project or event record for the underlying facts of a news item. The record identifies the relevant document and status. Excerpts should preserve the meaning and limits of the original material.

Quotations and attribution

Identify a speaker by their accurate role and attribute personal experience to that person. A technical contributor's affiliation is not an endorsement by their employer. Permission to reproduce a quotation does not necessarily include permission to alter it.

Media contact

Identify your publication or organisation, the subject, the information requested and any deadline. Requests to reproduce or translate material should also state the proposed use.
