Application of these rules

These rules govern the membership relationship. The approved category schedule and the terms communicated on admission form part of that relationship. Membership is separate from any contract for assessment, research, training or another service.

Admission

An applicant must provide accurate information and identify the person authorised to act for it. Admission follows the applicable approval procedure. No membership right arises merely from submitting an application, using an application reference or making a payment before approval.

Rights and responsibilities

Members may exercise only the rights assigned to their category and effective membership period. They must provide current information, observe applicable conduct requirements and avoid statements that misrepresent their relationship with the Institute.

Fees and renewal

The applicable fee schedule and confirmation identify charges and the membership period. Renewal, non-payment and category changes are handled under the terms of the relationship. Charges for other services do not secure membership rights unless expressly agreed.

Conduct and interests

Participation must respect the technical purpose of the work, confidentiality and relevant intellectual property. Members disclose interests affecting a task or decision. An organisational representative must have authority to represent the member and observe the conditions of the activity.

Names and marks

A membership statement must identify the member accurately and avoid implying product approval, accreditation or an assessment result. Any permitted member mark is used only under its specific conditions. It must not be placed or described in a way that suggests product certification.

Suspension and termination

Membership may be suspended or ended only through the applicable procedure and decision authority. The notice identifies the effective date and consequences for rights, access and permitted claims. Obligations that survive termination remain governed by their terms.

Questions and review

Questions about category or administration use the membership enquiry route. A concern about conduct or procedure may be raised as a complaint. Any right to challenge a membership decision follows the relevant decision notice and rules.
