Accurate claims

A claim must identify what has been evaluated or recorded and avoid implying a broader conclusion. The type, issuing body, scope and current status of the result determine the statement that may be made. A visual mark does not override those limits.

Object and record

Use the result only for the object, activity, site or person identified in the applicable record. A shared brand, common owner or related product does not establish coverage. A claim should allow the relevant result to be identified and checked.

Authorised use of marks

Use of a mark requires permission under its specific conditions, including the permitted form and context. Reproduction must not obscure the result's limitations or create an implication of statutory approval. Other organisations' marks require their own authority.

Products, systems and membership

A management-system statement must not be presented as product certification. A member mark identifies a membership relationship, not assessed product conformity. A learning record concerns its stated activity and must not endorse the employer's products or services.

Misleading presentation

A claim can mislead through context as well as wording. Examples include placing a limited result beside unrelated products, omitting a material exclusion, using an expired record as current or combining marks to suggest an institutional relationship that does not exist.

Changes in status

Suspension, withdrawal, expiry or a scope reduction can change permitted claims. Follow the effective decision and programme rules, including the treatment of websites, printed material and previously distributed statements. Keeping an old file does not preserve the right to use its former status.

Checking a result

Use the stated verification route and compare the record with the claim. Read the object, issuer, criteria, dates and scope. A matched identifier alone does not establish that the particular presentation is authorised.
